Building a Vista Media Center, The Sequel

Scream Read about how a fire destroyed my beloved Vista Media Center and the saga and expense of rebuilding it the last few weeks.

If I had hair I would have pulled it all out.

Not cool.

  1.

ouch ouch ouch ouch – that’s pretty expensive man.
One of the big reasons I don’t build home solutions for anything anymore. I just don’t have the energy or time for all of that debugging.

  2. I still find rolling my own more fun and educational than buying off-the-shelf when it comes to special-purpose computers. OEM premiums are too stiff, imo. For example, I built a Windows Home Server to handle all our backup and media archival/sharing needs using spare PC parts.

There is nothing quite like the smell of thermal paste. :nerd:
